Cousin from Sydney visited over the weekend and she really wanted to try Cumulus Inc.
This restaurant is located on Flinders lane, where you can various modern Australian and restaurants offering fusion cuisines.
It was a Friday night so we had to wait for a whole 1 hour for a table for two. Took the chance to walk all the way back to Melbourne Central for a little late night shopping before heading back to Flinders lane. The whole restaurant was really cosy and I liked the atmosphere. Didn't take many pictures because it was really dark in the restaurant so here is a picture of the whole setting from cumulusinc.com
We were seated at the bar but the little spotlights werent enough for my camera, therefore I only have Samsung S4 pictures for now. Wasn't comfortable sitting at the bar because my legs were too short, climbing onto the high stools was a challenge for me and my feet couldn't reach the footrest so theywere left dangling in mid air. Sorry for putting that image of my short legs in your head.
On the right :
Life Of Ron - Ron Zacapa 23, fresh grapefruit juice, ginger beer and peach bitters. $19
On the left :
The waiter offered me a non-alcoholic drink which I do not remember the name. Its made from rhubarb, has mint leaves in it and it is one of the best drinks I've ever tasted.
Fried burratta $17
If I am not mistaken, this is new as I can't find it on the online menu / reviews on it. The burratta was perfectly fried and the pickled ginger and mint at the sides were really refreshing. Love how the taste of the burratta blends together with the stronger tastes of the mint and ginger.
Foie gras parfait with toasted brioche $17
My first time trying foie gras. The parfait was just really smooth and completely melts in your mouth. The brioche itself was mouthgasm. This is one dish I will definitely come back again for.
Broccoli salad, green harissa, black garlic & Espelette $12
Don't have a picture for this, reason being we didn't think broccoli salad would be so good that its worth a picture BUT IT WAS. I have never imagined broccoli could taste so good. This dish is a little spicy, and that's coming from someone who really likes spicy food.
Finally the highlight of our dinner
Whole roast lamb shoulder to share $69
Picture doesn't do it any justice. It doesn't look all that big here but it was 1.3kgs. The lamb shoulder definitely didn't disappoint as it was overall scrumptious. However the lamb was inconsistently cooked. There were some parts that was so tender that it melts on your tongue but there were some parts that were pretty dry. Nevertheless, I would definitely bring my family here when they visit Melbourne just for this dish.
To end the wonderful dinner date
Madeleine, filled with lemon curd $2.5 each
15 minutes wait for the dessert. It wasn't all that good in comparison with all the fancy dishes we had before. There was too little lemon curd filling but it was a good full stop to our dinner.
I had the time of my life, trying out food with names I don't even know how to pronounce. Pricey, but totally worth the experience. I want to come back to try their breakfast menu as well !
